Ingalls Cold War Nuclear Submarines
Paperback – July 8, 2017
by Chris E Wiggins (Author)
Paperback - $20.00 Prime

The Cold War was in full swing. Both sides had nuclear weapons. The Soviets were ahead in rocketry and conventional submarines. The United States needed to maintain strategic leadership. Ingalls Shipbuilding, an existing Gulf Coast ship builder that had previously done mostly cargo ships, entered the struggle--producing nuclear submarines, the world's most technologically advanced craft, rivaling the manned Space program in complexity. Could those Mississippi folks due it? It turns out, they could and did. This is that story and not just of the building but what those submarines did when they sailed away into a cold, deep, and, often unforgiving, sea.

I have read the first 60 pages. I would recommend this book.
It gives background history of Ingalls shipyard and how it got involved with building subs with the USS Blueback SS-581.
The book has many photos and illustrations. I like the authors writing style,

I believe Blind Man Bluff mention the Halibut not the Parche in the tapping of the underwater cable..

Looks like it was in there.

Been a long time since I last read it.

Parche was really an Ingalls / Mare Island hybrid. She was launched at Ingalls as a stock 637 Sturgeon class boat. Later on at MINSY she got a 50 - 60 foot hull extension forward of the sail with an elevated topside fairing - requiring the fairwater planes to be raised 8 or 10 ft to get into clean flow.
a post-mod picture is here.
