Not sure if this is correct Forum. Is anyone involved in on-line or PC Submarine Simulation Games? I've just discovered "Cold Waters" and find it really intriguing! (And difficult to outwit/kill some enemies.) A taste of it is here - an Ex ETS(SS) giving an intro/tutorial: Edited by SaltiDawg - 07 Jul 2018 at 3:58pm |

I have not played Cold Waters yet, but it has gotten extremely good reviews and has an active community making mods (missions, additional ships, etc.). I used to play Dangerous Waters back inthe day... not arcade like the Silent Hunter series, DW was purely tactical. One thing DW had that I really liked was multiplayer - your friends could be allies or enemies with their own ships, boats, or planes. It also had a mode where the players took control of a station on your boat. You could have one player be the OOD, one in sonar, and one weapons. Had a lot of fun with that one. Still available too, on Steam, for $15. Tons of addons and such, but steep learning curve and graphics are dated by todays standards. Cold Waters is a similar game, single player only but much prettier.
Be warned either game (DW especially) can have hours long missions without ever encountering your target. Kind of like real life. Thanks for reminding me about this game, Jerry; I think I might have to try it out.

Thanks for the feedback. I did buy DW but could not get it to run on Windows 7 or 10. (Even with patches, and some help. I do find myself getting impatient - closing a distant contact at five knots reduces range by only 500 yards every three minutes. Takes forever! I literally "leave the Conn" and take a head break while closing. So I'm trying Cold Waters now. It's on sale for 30% off of the $40 at Steam. Edited by SaltiDawg - 08 Jul 2018 at 7:06pm |

I just checked, and you are right. I guess the sale was just for a week or two. Paid $27.99 last week. The earlier game, Dangerous Waters was developed for the Navy by Sonalysts - a CT outfit started by the late CDR Dave Hinkle, SSN CO in the late 1960s. They developed a civilian Game from the Navy work.
