50 years ago this week I arrived at RTC San Diego and found out my name was not the one my Momma gave me.

My goodness how time flies. Looks like we have something in common occurring in 67. Just a different location. I do know some rocks that are older than us. Even one Texan that goes by Roy, that has us both beat.

50 years ago this week, we were sailing off the coast of Vietnam, stopping and searching small craft for contraband. I was on mid watch in Radio. My diary says the night cook was baking sticky buns, and that he brought some up to Radio, CIC  and the bridge at about 2 AM.

This was the 1967 WESTPAC deployment. I was also there in 1965, doing much the same thing.

My GAWD! Does that mean I am getting old????? Cry

Know what ya mean.  Almost 57 years ago I arrived at RTC San Diego and found out my name was S**t Bird and, until then, I had never known I was even related to Larry of Celtics fame.  I mean, who woulda thunk?? Wink

50 years ago I was in Vietnam and the monsoon was finally giving way to the beastly heat and humidity of the dry season.  Today I'm not sure which was worse.

Yes, but how many people know how many air mattresses it takes to float an M-60 on a pallet? Or how to position it so the hot shells don't hit the Mattresses? Ah the skills we have and will never have a need for again.
