I remember the SPIKEFISH tied up at a low-numbered pier in NLON.  I think she was towed out, then back to the Base several times before they were able to sink her.

I was told the name of the boat that succeeded but have forgotten.

I believe both Sea Raven and Skipjack were sunk in the Bikini Bomb Tests... not off Coast of CA

EDIT:  Oops. Skipjack was raised at Bikini and subsequently re-sunk off CA

EDIT2:  Oops again.  Same for Sea Raven.

My source was an old book.

Stan, I was sorry to see REDFISH go.  She was in excellent material condition.  But, truth to tell, she was obsolete and of very little military value.  It would have been nice to see this WWII Carrier killer become a museum ship but...  She lives on in our hearts and memories.

Add Tiru to the list

19 July 1979 Tiru was sunk as a target by the submarine Silversides at 36°N 73°W, about 200 nautical miles (370 km; 230 mi) off Cape HatterasNorth Carolina.

What about U=234? She was never a "commissioned" boat, but was a "US" boat and sunk as a target.

"As she was not needed by the US Navy, U-234 was sunk off Cape Cod as a torpedo target by USS Greenfish on 20 November 1947."

I don't know why I'm almost emotional about boats being sunk as targets. I know it makes sense to do that with some ships, but still...
