It looks like Lahaina is destroyed. The Pioneer Inn is gone as well as most of Front Street. Sadly the 100+year old Banyan tree is also gone. I slept in that tree in 1972, my first stop there.

Just saw a video. An arborist team has examined the Banyan tree, found living cambium layer under the bark, sap flow, etc., They are treating the tree with lots of water to re-hydrate, adding compost mulch, aeriating the soil and injecting micro nutrients. The tree is in a "coma" right now and will wake up, when is unknown, but they expect about six months. They will be checking often for signs of budding. Meanwhile the dead burnt leaves will remain on the tree to protect the bark from sunburn. The tree is NOT dead.
