India test-fires anti-ship missile from lead Kalvari-class

The Indian Navy has successfully conducted the first
test-firing of an anti-ship missile from its lead Kalvari (Scorpène)-class
submarine, the country's defence ministry announced on 2 March.

The firing, believed to have been conducted with an MBDA
Exocet SM39 Block 2 missile based on information of the platform's weapons in
Jane's Fighting Ships, was carried out in the Arabian Sea. "The missile
successfully hit a surface target at extended ranges during the trial
firing," the ministry said in its statement.

According Jane's Weapons: Naval, the SM39 Block 2 has a
maximum range of 38 n miles (70.4 km) and can carry warheads of up to 165 kg
(363 lb).

	First Iran is Developing Sub Launched Missiles and now India test-fires an anti-ship missile. What's up with that? Could it be a harbinger of an India/Iran arms race? Inquiring minds . . . etc.
