May 23, 1939 The main induction valve fails and the 192 Squalus is lost with 26 lost and 33 personnel saved by the diving bell. Ring the bell.

She was raised, overhauled and renamed Sailfish with the same hull number.  Made 12 War patrols and sank 7 ships. 
In a strange twist of fate, the USS Sculpin was the boat that found the Squalus ub 1939,   
Later in the war Sailfish sank a 20,000 carrier which was carrying survivors of the Sculpin as POWs.  However none of the crew of Scorpion was aboard during the Squalus incident.
