A Vermont winery's sparkling apple wine has been selected to christen the nuclear-powered submarine USS Vermont. The Brattleboro Reformer reports Putney Mountain Winery owner Charles Dodge said Tuesday their Northern Spy wine will be spilled during the christening ceremony to be held Saturday in Connecticut. General Dynamics' Electric Boat division is building the submarine at a cost of $17.6 billion. Dodge says he had to send his wine to General Dynamics to see if it would pass a bubbles test because the wine used to christen the USS South Dakota was "as flat as a pancake." The USS Vermont is the third warship named USS Vermont, and it will be able to remain submerged for up to three months. Edited by Sewer Pipe Snipe - 21 Oct 2018 at 4:52am |

Walt,
Had I done everything right throughout my life, the World wouldn't have noticed. |
