When you came into port, the boat was obviously connected to shore power and the engines were shut down. Was the boat able to charge batteries (equalizing or otherwise) from shore power, or did the charge require running an engine?

Also posting on Gentry's BBS.

Could charge from AC Shore Power.

(On the T-1 we could charge from DC Shore power in Key West.)

We could charge using shore power alone.  But, to start the LP Blower we had to shift some of the load to the battery via the 300KW Mg's.  Once it was running shore power could handle it.

Testing my memory. Did we have to start the LP Blower periodically while in port? Leaky MBT Vent Valves?

Yes. As an additional help, if we knew we were going to be in port for more than a couple of days we could bolt on the Vent Covers.

I know the "B" girls didn't have a LP Blower.  They lined up to exhaust their diesels to the MBT's.  Are there / were there any other boats without LP Blowers?

I seem to remember one time at the Weapons Station Charleston at the Missile Pier a flatbed trailer with a Fairbanks Morse just like ours on it feeding us shore power.
