Ohio Class boats have been converted to Cruise Missile versus Trident missiles.  Now a new hypersonic missile is coming.  5 times the speed of sound.

*Four Ohio Class boats (726, 727, 728, and 729) were converted to carry TLAM. The remainder of the class are still SSBNs. Some are likely to be decommissioned, but the Navy has expressed interest in a second refueling (and a living-hell overhaul) for the newer hulls to extend life until the Colombia (826) class starts coming online . See https://news.usni.org/2020/11/16/navy-may-extend-life-of-ohio-ssbns-to-provide-cushion-for-introduction-of-columbia-class

Despite articles over the last few weeks about putting hypersonic missiles (aka Prompt Strike) on the SSGNs, it now appears that the Virginias will get them first, probably the Block V boats, via a new Virginia Payload Module design.
Interesting remarks by VADM(ret) Benedict, former Director, SSP.
