George Sharp (March 4, 1916 - February 25, 2016)

George was born March 4, 1916, in Holmsberg, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Arthur and Isabel Enoch Sharp. After graduating from Manual Training High school, George took exams for the Naval Academy and entered with the class of 1939. George married Helen Catherine Krause January 2, 1940. They had three daughters: Linda Sharp Hutchison of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Tina Sharp Rolig of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and Catherine Sharp of Sacramento, California.

George had an adventurous Naval Career. He Captained 4 submarines: a division of submarines, a fleet oiler and a Naval Station. George's foreign duties were one year in Turkey training Turkey submariners, two years in Brazil as Operations Advisor for the US Naval Mission, three years in Santiago, Chile, as US Naval Officer. He had duty in Washington, D.C.; two years as Aide to deputy chief of Naval Operations, and three years on loan to the State Department, Latin American Military Affairs.

After 35 years of being a Submariner, Captain George Sharp, retired from the United States Navy in 1969.  George retired to a small farm 50 miles north of Philadelphia. He worked as Sales Manager for Eastern RotoCraft for 10 years. In 1980, tired of the hot, humid and buggy summers and cold, damp winters, George and Helen moved to Roswell, New Mexico. They enjoyed the sunny and dry four seasons of Roswell.

In April 2006, George's wife, Helen, died of a brain hemorrhage. George met and married Marry Frances Zentko Gonzales in August of 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Isabel, and his older siblings: Susan, Bill and Sally.

George died peacefully at home on February 25, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. His wish was to be cremated and his cremains to be interred with Helens at a later date.
