When on patrol in the month of April, we were stinkers. We had a fake log for salinity. When a new EOOW or EWS was on watch for April first, we would hand in that log, with an indicated high salinity Forward Auxiliary Seawater for the watch stander initials. The Old Man expected it, as did the Engineer. I guess that is why the newbie was on watch during normal drill times. Funny, it got them excited every time. They never apparently checked the date on the log, nor the strange entry of Fwd ASW. Sometimes we were evil.

Gary, you really seem to want to engage in political discourse.  Of course, it is forbidden on this particular forum.  However, you are in luck for there is another forum available at which you can discuss politics with submariners.  You can get it all out of your system at the link below.  Have fun!  Wink

Allow me to explain:

GaryKC inserted a political non sequitur pertaining to the term "collusion" in reference to, from my point of view, the witch hunt currently being perpetrated by the far left [i.e., Democrats, Progressives, Socialists, Main Stream Media, the Deep State and the RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) in Congress] against the POTUS for so-called "collusion" with the Russians.  In the past Gary has, on occasion, similarly inserted political non sequiturs  (e.g., "62,979,879" [Google the number if its meaning is not apparent to you]) and, since it appeared, to me, to represent an unexpressed, perhaps unconscious, desire on his part to engage in political discourse, I referred him to a more appropriate website at which he could do so; a website which is labeled as the "PigPen".  (Caveat: At times we psychologists tend to infer underlying motivations for the behavior we observe in others.  And sometimes we proffer unsolicited advice pertaining to that inference.  Sorry about that.  Consider it an occupational hazard that I am working hard to overcome.)

Personally, I appreciate Gary's sense of humor and his use of graphics to express it.  However, at times I feel an urge to respond, but am unable to do so because I want to honor Ron's wishes about not posting political content.  At the PigPen Gary could expound politically to his heart's content.  And I could respond.

Some history:  Ron used to host the PigPen here but became frustrated with (actually, just plain fed up) all of the fuss and bother it caused him (after enduring it for a number of years).  So, Brian Flynn, on his own initiative, motivated by a desire to be helpful, and at his own expense, set up a separate website for this purpose and invited all submariners to participate . . . for which he is to be commended.

I apologize for presuming to speak for Ron Martini and Brian Flynn, but I don't believe that I am too far off of the mark.  And if I am wrong please feel free to correct my mistakes.

And finally, to Gary:  if you took offense at my post please understand that no malice was intended.  There was no
intent to deride or malign you in any way but, rather, to be both instructive and constructive.

No offense at all, Stan. See, back in the old days folks would discuss ideas, ponder over one anothers opinions on things that effected the whole tribe. Sometimes it's fun to poke the bear online, as repercussions are usually painless and appreciated. I'm simply enjoying playing the back nine of life, in which there is no 19th hole. I've watched a lot of folks I care about live their last moments angry, I prefer going out laughing.

Sorry I wasted anyone's time.

All I see is a post telling a sea story about a bogus chemistry log being foisted on an inexperienced watchstander. Guess I'm simply not sophisticated enough to see any political commentary that needed a response.

I'll move on to something of value.

To me that means to me to see my Grands, (all six) grow up and succeed at life, which means contribute something that matters to the rest of us and to be happy.

Oh Gary, that's a wonderful video.

First, this was not a matter of your lack of sophistication, but of history; which I explained (ad nauseam, in fact) in the above post.

Second, you wasted no one's time except, perhaps, your own.  And since I was the one responsible for that, I apologize. I did rather over-expound in my response to your question.  Mea culpa.

As Gary said, life is too short to waste any of it.  And I agree with him.  (In fact I probably agree with him more often than he realizes, except for politics, of course.) Wink

So why don't we all move on to more important things and enjoy the time we have left . . . Big smile
