What do the USS Flounder (SS-251) and the USS Barb (SSN-596) have in common with each other?

Both were in collisions with another US Navy submarine while submerged.....Flounder SS-251 with Hoe SS-258 during WWII.......Barb SSN-596 and Sargo SSN-583 off Oahu in 1965.

PS ........Happy Saint Urho's Day....always the day before Saint Patricks Day.....St. Urho chased all of the grasshoppers out of Finland and saved the Finnish grape crop so you can enjoy all those fine Finnish wines today.SmileWinkTongue

Well done.  Not too many underwater collisions like these two.  I was in Pearl when Sargo pulled in.  Her sail was immediately covered with blue tarp.

With regard to the Grasshoppers in Finland.  Thanks for clearing that up.  I just finnished a glass.

The rumor about the Barb/Sargo was that each was properly in their assigned op area but due to an admin error the op areas overlapped.  Got that from the messcook who knew someone that used to be at Squadron.

I always drink to St Urho -- and his much better known brother St Rohs -- every day with a few Stroh's beers.
