I've been enjoying Firefox for a long time. They've just introduced a new upgraded version. They claimed it would increase speed. I must say it's not an exaggeration. My Internet experiences just kicked into another gear.

Based on your post I downloaded and installed the new Firefox Quantum 57.0 version.  It does seem to work faster.  Most of the features don't seem that much different but I use very few add-ons, apps and whatnot.  So far, I'm pleased with this version.  Thanks.

One problem I have is that I can't figure how to get Firefox to open a new tab in the home page I have set up.  Instead it opens in a Firefox page showing a bunch of browsing options based upon browser history and what Firefox thinks I should know or do, which I find annoying.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

To return  to the designated Home Page, click on the House (Home) building Icon in upper right row of icons.  If no House Icon, edit tool bar and add it.

If you click on the Plus symbol tothe right of the right most tab in top row you will go to a tab with no destination assigned... the bunch of browsing options.  You could then click on the House Icon.

YMMV

Yes, that is exactly what happens.  What I wanted Firefox to do was to open a new tab directly on the home page and skip the browsing options page.  But, I couldn't find the option that let me do that and at this point I think maybe that it isn't possible.  However, I do appreciate your input.  As you said, all I have to do is simply click on the "Home Page" symbol.  After all it is merely one little step more.

BTW, the more I use this version the more I like it and it does seem to work faster.

This was the same way Firefox operated prior to this update.  When I posted the above I had not yet updated Firefox.  I updated Firefox last night and everything I posted remains the same.

I know of no way to open a new tab and have it go directly to the Home Page - either with the previous version nor with the new update.

Well, you're right again.  Before the update it didn't go to the home page, it went to a blank page.  At least, it did on my computer.

Under OPTIONS in the page immediately below where you select the homepage is a paragraph where you select from 3-4 items. One is what appears I f you click on the + to the right of the tab bar.  IIRC
