Facebook has caused the demise of many older Web sites. This BBS may be soon departing.  No posts since March and I have done the last 3.
What say you?

Your site was part of my first venture into the Web.  I have been inactive for years because of medical problems.  Many of the people I have "met" here are gone.  I would be sad to see the site go, but you gottta do what you gotta do.

I'll be sorry to see the BBS closing, Ron. I check it every day. Like you said, no posts since March, and they were yours.

Thanks for having me along for the ride.

Gary - It isn't financial. All of the expenses for this site are taken care of.

The real issue is that younger submariners are less interested in this form of communication, preferring Facebook or Reddit. As a result, each year we see less and less participation here. What was once a flood is now note even a controlled leak. More like after-watch condensate in the bilge.

I've talked Ron out of closing the place down a couple of times in the past, but there just doesn't seem  to be much interest "out there" to  keep it going. I'm one of the youngest members here and had several friends here go on eternal patrol.

So, Ron is asking you if you want to keep this BBS going. 5 responses so far (which is a LOT compared to recent traffic), but 4 of the 5 don't care if it gets closed down.

If you don't care, that's perfectly fine. But if you do care and want to keep it, I'd suggest convincing Ron that it is a good idea. You'll also need to show your support by actually posting here once in a while.

I would definitely like for Ron to keep this website going for personal reasons.  I had Gerry put up the links to the Silent Service videos, and Dex Armstrong's After Battery stories that I copied off Ray Stones web page after he passed away, some almost 180 pages; and the other authors of other similar stories because I didn't want those pieces of history to vanish in the ethernet.  And I also keep the list of Reactor Hulls berried at Hanford dup to date for those who want to know where their ustafish's reactors are in Pit 19.  So I vote for Ron to keep these information sources available for all us ole farts.

Hi Dan,

There is a plan to keep that information available to all in the event that this site closes, albeit in a different location.

I check the site each day. Been here since June 1997. Would be sorry to see it end but I get it.
