Sponsored by SecNav's daughter.

Notably, the campaign bottle did not break on the first swing.  Seems like there was an old superstition attached to that.

What naval superstitions did you guys encounter? Which did you practice yourselves?

Many building yards have historically had a backup bottle down low and out of sight that covered that eventuality.

Sorry about that, and thank you for fixing it! I post daily on a half dozen or more boards. This is the only one that doesnt turn a link into a link automagically, so I often forget.

To add a post replying to my own question about sailor superstitions... I didn't encounter much if any superstition on the 641. There were a few guys who didn't want to go on Alpha Sea Trials, but i htink that was less superstition and more the things they had observed after nearly 3 years in PNSY for a "simple refueling".  On the 730, though, the big one was that the boat had been laid down as USS Rhode Island, and the name changed after the keel was laid. Many guys said that was bad luck, others said it didnt matter, the bad luck is changing the name AFTER LAUNCH. I don't really know either way, but it was materially an excellent boat and surfaces == dives to this day. She now the oldest SSBN in service. That just doesn't seem right.

1)Dare I say,  women on board means bad luck.

2) Red sky at night, sailor's delight; red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.

Bringing flowers onboard a warship was always considered unlucky.

I've tried to convince USSVI to use an Ivy wreath for the Tolling of the Bells Ceremony.  The Ivy wreath is known as a symbol of heroism.

I saw the video. She just flat out missed on the first swing, no bounce back at all!
