It is pitiful to say, but I doubt if many outside the old submarine community even know what the date records, or which sub the hull number represents.

Walt,

Not many outside the community know much about submarines so a 49 years ago sinking isn't really going to register with most.

Isn't it our job to "Perpetuate the Memory"?

Doc, that's the USSVI creed which not everyone belongs. It would be great to have more support for the submarine force.

Anybody remember how difficult it was to get the Centennial Submarine stamp?  It literally took an act of Congress to git 'er done.  As well as support from the USSVI and folks like Ron Martini.  That was 17 years ago, meaning that about a third of Americans have been born since then and know nothing at all, as well as another third who were born in other countries, leaving the last third to remember of which only a small percentage cares or knows anything at all about submarines.  I guess that is not so unexpected, though, since we are the "silent service."

Indeed!  Where did it go?  I have to admit that I have spent countless hours right here at this BBS over the last 20 years writing thousands of posts that mostly pisses off a lot of people.  Not a very productive utilization of my time, I must admit. Confused

On the other hand, I did rather enjoy it.  And I got to know a number of great guys.  So, there is that . . . Wink Thumbs Up

You had to remind me of that too? I believe you and I joined around the same time which was in the middle of the Run To Perth in 1997.

Yep, that's true Tom.  I do remember the Perth Run.  I also distinctly remember thinking, "What the . . .?"  LOL

There are a few of us still around from that time.  But, so many are now on eternal patrol.  I wonder what this BBS will be like 10 years from now?  Hopefully we'll all still be a-postin' away. Wink

Not much to say.  Don't ask my ex though, she would say the opposite.

Been a long time since I used this sign off!!

Ah, yes.  The "Pecker Checker" who lives in Fla. and whose cousin is the famous actor, Steve.  You have posted here for many years, perhaps longer than I have.  And, as I recall, you pretty much said what you thought.  So, personally, I would welcome more of your posts.  Don't let not having anything to say deter you from posting.  As you can see, it hasn't slowed down any of the rest of us. Big smile
