My wife Shirley (her initials spelled SAM)(of 53 years) passed this afternoon after a massive stroke Thursday AM.  We flew her to Billings, MT but Dr. there said too risky in her fragile condition to operate.
She then came under morphine care and really did not commicate after 10 AM Friday.  Brought her back to Sheridan and to a retirement facility that offered Comfort Care.
2 year struggle with trying to walk which was a Parkinson's issue.
I think my Shipmates extended her life a little and I thank you all for that.
Gil was a constant contact when I got a little teary.

Ron, words cannot express my sorrow for your loss. She is now free of her Parkinson's and is at peace.

We, your shipmates, are all here for you.

I cannot imagine the magnitude of your loss Ron. Our prayers are that you have some comfort in knowing that she is resting in peace, and in the 53 years of good memories you have of your togetherness.

Ron:
Sorry for your loss. I met Shirley, briefly, when we stopped at your house on the 2010 motorcycle trip to the west. She was very gracious in letting the motley crew of submariners and Marine in. May she Rest In Peace and may your memories and the support of your shipmates sustain you.

Ron

So sorry for your loss.

Be careful my friend that it doesn't grind you down. My wife had her stroke 3 years ago this month. A bad journey for sure and now she is in hospice care. Although she has come to terms with what awaits her, that slow trip toward the inevitable conclusion has nearly broken me. 52 years together is no small thing.

As my daughter said “I want mom to have peace and wholeness in heaven.” Your wife is there now. Mine will soon follow. Sometimes even the memories won't suffice. Reality always trumps. And reality will come at you when you least expect it. Have a friend or relative that you can call on. I tried booze for a while and it is certainly no friend. Don't do it.

Best advice I have received is “make no big decisions for one year.” Seems like good advice.

Something I constantly rely on:

May God grant me the ability to change the things that I can,
to accept the things I cannot change,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

May God be with you.

Sid
