What submarines were the first to have their crews authorized to wear the shoulder "tab"?  That is the rocker in black with the name of the boat enbroidered on it.

I think these originated in the '50's, so I'll take a guess, maybe Tang or Barbel class boats? (Still have mine from the Barbel, in '63)

When I got to my boat in 82, we did not have them. I think they started coming back into use in 85

The submarines in the first authorization trial were the Tang (SS-563) and the Harder (SS-568).
