I'm confused and cannot find the answer. An individual states that WW2 subs carried 125,000 Gal of fuel. However he doesn't state what class of boat that is. My research finds that a Gato class boat carried 94,500 gallons, but, is that with or with out the Fuel Oil Ballast tanks? Is he quoting a Tench Class boat? It certainly couldn't have been an S class.
Question: how much fuel does a Gato class hold with Fuel Oil Ballast tanks filled?

Looking at the Historic Naval Ships Association site at some Booklet of General Plans:
Balao Class looks like they had about 120,000 gallons and Tench Class had about 113000 gallons.  Just a couple of sample points.

USS Pampanito, a typical Balao sub  has 55,586 in normal fuel oil tanks, 38,530 in fuel ballast tanks for a total of 93,110 gallons.

Fuel Ballast Tanks are full of fuel when leaving port, when their fuel is used they are converted to ballast tanks at sea.  They have all the piping and fittings to serve both purposes.
