At MINSY nuke school July-Dec. 1962 we called it the "rabbit ears" curve.

The nice thing about slide rules was no batteries to die, or electronic components to go tits up, at the worst moment.

And they come in various sizes and shapes... I have a half dozen still... linear, round, Is-Was, Bearing Rate, regular.

One of the factors in the Four Factor and Six Factor equations - a Constant.
I think for Uranium 238 it was like 1.47 ???? Ratio of fast neutrons starting to slow down to Slow Neutrons remaining and available to fission.
Believe it or not, that is from memory and likely is totally wrong.
