I served with Mungerson on USS Sterlet (SS-392) in the mid 60's.  One night when underway I was AEA and he was Chief of the Watch.  Long mid-watch.  The XO came through control and for some reason asked Chief Mung about the Stickleback.  The next hour and a half flew by and by the end of his description when I looked around Control Room was full.
To qual on the boat you had to pass a Control room, Hydraulics and Trim and Drain checkouts from him and him alone.  I thought I was prepared for my hydraulics checkout.  After I was done (first session) the E-Div Chief (Emerson) asked me how many pages of lookups I had.  It was more than one.
ENC(SS) Mungerson was one of the great boat sailors.
