A Submarine Rescue Chamber was used for the first time since the Squalus incident in 1939. It occurred in 2000 by a team of divers from the U.S. They took the chamber on a C5 from San Diego to Singapore. Then onto a Russian Merchant Vessel with a big fantail. They went to the So. China Sea in 200' of water where they successfully demonstrated rescue from a Sinagore, a Japanese, and a Korean Submarine. This same site had the SRC loaded when the Russian Kursk went down but they were told to stand down. The author of the book "View Through a Faceplate Window" is Ross A. Garcia. He was a Navy Master Diver. He now is the Ship Superintendent at the Cavalla Historical Submarine site.
