I got my ID card the day I signed up with the VA, and they send me a letter when it was time to get a new card.  I'll look into it tomorrow at the West Haven, CT VA.  I'll go down to the office and find all about the ID Cards.  Hopefully all will go well.

Jim, and any other veterans out there who have a VA ID Card.

The VA recently changed the software they were using to have the Kiosk read your card but the new system won't recognize your old card.  That is why they are having you get a new card.

In reality, if you are already in the VA system you don't need to even use your card when you check in at the Kiosk.  When you log in, just check the button that says "I don't have a VA Card".  It will then ask you to enter your SS#.  It will recognize you and ask you the same questions that it would have asked if you did have a good card.  BTDT

I received a letter from the VA yesterday, informing me that I need to refill out my application again, since they haven't been able to find my military information through their electronic information systems, and subsequently able to complete the process.

The problem is, I have never applied to the VA for anything other then a hearing aid 3 years ago, which I was denied since I couldn't find any hearing specialist that know the specific hearing test the VA requires.

So I am at a loss as to the new application which I have since sh*tcanned...

Runner,

Don't try getting into the VA by yourself.  Get ahold of your local  Veterans Service Officer (VSO) who will fill out the paperwork and submit your claim for you.  They know what to  say and how to properly word your claim.  Check with your American Legion or VFW to find out who is your rep.

When your claim is submitted by the VSO, the VA will set up an appointment with a hearing specialist in your area who will evaluate your hearing loss claim and submit their report to the VA.  It may take 8 weeks or more after your examination to hear back from the VA, but don't give up hope.  Once your claim is approved, you will be paid back to the date you submitted your claim, so if you still have any of that previous paperwork, take it with you to the VSO visit.

Joe, the VSO for us is as follows:

Kent County - Charles Murrell- 302-257-3119
Sussex County- Laurie Corsa - 302-648-3068

Not sure which is closest to you. Good luck.

Going back to Audiology.

I submitted a claim for hearing loss based on a test given by a downtown guy who was doing all the work for the VA because we did not have an audiologist about 12 weeks ago.  4 weeks ago I got a response.  I was deemed to be disabled due to hearing loss but the amount was not enough to warrant any compensation even though I have had VA issued hearing aids for 4 years

2 weeks ago I got a test from our new audiologist at the VA because it had been 4 years on the old aids.   She basically said the same thing.  Come back in two years.  #!$#!  Anyway I do get the latest aids with increased technology and here is something I didn't know.  I happened to mention that the wife and I squabble about the TV volume all the time.  The gal said we will fix you up.  There is a device that goes between the TV and your hearing aids via blue tooth and volume to you and is so good that the volume can be too low even for the wife and I can still get it.  If you get VA hearing aids, you should ask about it.

I pick both up on the 10th of Dec.

Something else I didn't know at the time but I do get compensation (10%) for Tinitus. And now I am disabled.  I get free eye glasses also.  I used to just get an exam (diabetes) and the guy would write the prescription and send me downtown.  Now, they also supply them and I go back every year.
