New veterans ID cards won't be available until 2017
(Military Times) Congress passed legislation for a new veterans ID card last summer, but it will likely be another year before any are issued.
Every increase in government authority is a decrease of the liberty of each citizen.

Sh***t I'll be 84 by then. Anyway I'll still have my cap with USS Toro above the silver dolphins and SS422 below then. Also AtoZ across the back.

I was looking to get a card showing that I was a veteran who did not retire. I went to the VA in San Diego and they told me that I had to go to a CA office for veterans and make an appointment.
I called to make an appointment and I was told that I needed a "certified" copy of my DD214. It was not worth the expense or hassle for me to get a card so I can get a discount from Home Depot.

The discount received will pay for the cost in short order. I know I have saved hundreds of dollars at THD and Lowes with my discount. I only use the discount for purchases over $50.

Why do you think that Lowes/HD et al will change their requirements for discount eligibility?  Just curious.

Here in Indiana, with a copy of your DD-214, you can get a "V" designation on your driver's license which is recognized state-wide as a valid for any veteran discount programs.

I understand.  I was asking about Lowes/HD as you had posted about those two..  The 2 yr, 4 yr, 6 yr Vet does not get the 10% Discount year 'round per their Corporate Policies.  The links and policies have been posted here numerous times.

They do offer that 10% off on a few holidays for ALL Vets.  Again, this is per their corporate policies which can be found on-line.  There are also a couple of sites that identify military discounts for ALL Vets.

I'm not trying to bash anyone.  Just trying to point out that these new IDs do not require anyone to extend discounts that are currently restricted to not include all Veterans.

Not able to spend a ton of time, Googled  lowe's military discount

Looked at: http://www.lowes.com/cd_In-Store+Services_745829091_

"

Military Discount

Lowe's established the 10% Military Discount to support the men and women who are currently serving our country in the Armed Services1 and to honor Retired Veterans and VA Recipients.2 This 10% discount is also extended to the immediate family3 of those who are currently serving, Retired Veterans, or VA Recipients.

To qualify for the Everyday 10% Military Discount, you must:

Be currently serving in, or retired from, a qualifying branch of the Armed Services, or be the immediate family member of someone who is and have a valid military ID Card.

Or:

Be a veteran who receives VA benefits and have a valid Veteran Identification Card (VIC).

We honor all Veterans on three specific holidays: Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day. During these three holiday weekends, we extend the discount to all veterans who served honorably and who present a valid Form DD214 or other proof of service. The Lowe’s Military Discount is extended to the Veteran community on these three holidays only.

The Military Discount must be used on personal purchases only and cannot be used for Lowes.com purchases, previous sales, or the purchase of gift cards or services including product installations. It cannot be combined with the Lowe’s Price Guarantee, or promotions such as "Spend and Get," "New Mover," "Project Starter," "Your Choice," or discounts such as Quote Support Program (QSP) quotes.

  • 1  Armed Services — US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, US Marine Corps, US Coast Guard, or the National Guard and who are in     active, reserve, or retired status.
  • 2  Retired Veterans and VA Recipients — Veterans who have retired after 20 years of service and/or those who receive VA Benefits
  • 3  Immediate Family — Spouses and/or dependent children (up to 18 years old.) "

Someone else with more time may want to Google for the HD Policy.  I can not find it right now.

"Home Depot Military/Veteran Discount Policy

They offer a 10 percent discount, up to a $500 maximum, to all active, reserve, retired or disabled veterans and their family members with a valid military ID, every day of the week.

All other military veterans qualify for a 10 percent discount during Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Independence Day."

This is taken from another site and is not from Home Depot's site.  Beware of the internet.  lol
