That is true about Home Depot only on certain holidays but I believe Loew's will honor them any day of the year.  Correct me if I am wrong.

Chris,
You are mistaken.  I posted the Lowe's Policy verbatim above in this thread.  I posted another source stating that HD's policy is identical, and suggested someone else may want to find the actual HD written policy.

There is a lot of mistaken info on the web, and also in this thread.  Usually the root of the mistaken info is that different local stores used to handle the "Veteran's Discount" differently - sometimes varying from Clerk to Clerk or Manager to Manager.  This led to lots of local News exposes in many different cities and states.

Both HD and Lowes put their policies in writing on-line and apparently made sure each stre was made aware of the process.

The process is still flawed.  When I show my ID ad the local HDs, the Clerks know the proper key to use, but seem embarrassed and not one has ever actually examined my ID.  My local Lowes is more thorough in examining my ID, but it is my experience that many young folk that have never entertained the notion of serving in the military don't have a clue as to what the various forms the term "veteran" may take.

Last year I wanted to buy a $1000 Weber Gas Grill from my local HD.  Only available on-line so I asked to the Store Manager because I believed the discount was not available on-line. He and I exchanged contact info - he said he'd vouch for me when I called.  He called from the store and could not get thru.

I went home, called HD's 800 number.  Told the CSR I wanted to buy the grill and receive the discount as I am a retired Navy man.  She said, "sure."  Never checked my ID, etc.

Bottom line is that many of us have received the discount or have been denied the discount at HD and Lowes, but for a few years now their Corporate Policy has been clear.   Including the fact that if you joined and served and got out after a few years other then for a medical disability, you are not entitled to a 10% discount 365 days a year.  You are eligible on a few holidays.

The policy is linked to above for Lowes and HD's is also out there.  If a local store is applying it differently, I'd suggest either contacting the home office or keeping quiet - depending on what they are doing.  (All of the HDs and the two Lowes in my area are now applying the policy correctly, and I use the discount on ALL purchases I make - I am a 24 year Retired Navy person.)

Chris,

There is a lot of confusion - and the stores didn't help themselves.  Even the store spokespersons replying to local TV "investigations" seem to misstate some things.

In any event, enjoy the perk.

As a military retiree who always carries his ID card I have never had a problem in getting my 10% discount at the local Lowe's or Home Depot any day of the week.
