In 1977, Kim earned his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. He devoted a 34 year career to FMC Corporation, retiring as the company's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 2012. Kim also served on the Boards of Directors for Hexcel Corporation and Teleflex Incorporated.

In August of 1978, Kim married Lisa Clark Whitney, a fellow MBA student at the University of Virginia. Lisa and Kim were happily married for 40 years and raised 3 beloved children together. Kim is survived by his wife, Lisa; his children, Amy, Will and Sam; his granddaughter, Hazel; his brothers, Tom and Rick; and his sister, Lee.
