With the current push to commemorate the fiftieth year of Woodstock, I saw an appropriate bumper sticker on a Marine Associates car. Years ago I had seen one referring to an M-14, but to be correct, in 69 they were few and far between In Country. This bumper sticker said "In July of 69 the only wood stock I knew about was on an M-79."

   An M-1 Garand for me.
I believe they were the standard rifle on submarines for some time.  Into the 1970's at least.
Also had one when I was on the rifle team at Mare Island.
Liked it so much I have my own now.

I have two Garands. My late Uncle's Match that was shot at Perry many times and earned a President's 100 patch, and an International Harvester accurized by Hook Boutin. They are indeed wonderful pieces of machinery.

We carried one on the 600. I left the boat in 1971 and it was still there along with a couple really antique Thompsons.

M-14 for me.  Was able to get one (new) a couple of years ago.  Have yet to see a VC to use it on.
