"Dennis Crile, ETCM (SS), served on Hawkbill from 1987 - 1993 and 1996 -
2000. He made this comment when asked what prompted him to begin this
project, "NASA's finest hour was the Apollo program. My finest hour was
the USS Hawkbill. This project is a step back in time. My way of
recalling that experience." Dennis has recreated parts of Hawkbill in his basement. Presumably he is either single or has a VERY understanding spouse. Check this out: http://usshawkbill.com/hawkbase.htm Any of you ever do something like this? Hardcore!

There's nothing wrong with that. It is a second living space, a second "bedroom" especially for the kids, and there's another half bathroom - didn't see a toilet, but a urinal. With minor modification - de-"Navy" the place, it does add to the property value.
Good for him!

Didn't mean to imply it isn't cool, because it sure is. Reading further, it appears he is married; he installed a second growler in the kitchen upstairs but said his wife still prefers to yell at him. Even more like being on the boat, I guess.

Seems to me the guy is just having a good time setting up the Goat Locker in his basement. I can think of a bunch of things he could be doing that would be a lot worse. On the other hand if he is obsessed with this project to the extent he is spending the family's food money on it he may have a problem. But, there is no indication of any of that. No OCD going on here as far as I can see.
So, good on him. I hope he invites some sub vet friends over for a beer and much reminiscing. Let the sea stories begin . . . |
