Embarking and inserting UDT folks happened a number of times from a number of boats.  It is not the event I was asking about.  The event in question only happened once in the history of our submarine force and only on Sealion.

I cannot confirm nor deny whether any folks went ashore from Sealion on the date above for liberty, reconnaissance or for any other purpose.  Big smile

A couple of boats carried LVT's.   Sealion and Perch.

Its not landing a deck gun but a different type landing.  Hint  Hint

Are you referring to the helicopter that landed on the Sealion? A helicopter made an emergency landing on USS Corporal SS-346 in April of 1956.

Ahhh my dolphin wearing friend while the Corporal and Sealion both had a helo aboard, only Sealion had a helo land on purpose AND take off from deck while at sea.  While being on shaky ground, trivia wise, i maintain my answer correct and yours nearly correct.

Just happened to remember, while at Pearl Harbor in 1963,serving on the USS Barbel SS580, the USS Sand Lance SS381 and USS Plaice, SS390, were overhauled and then given to Brazil. I imagine that the deck guns were removed during the overhauls.  I remember seeing one of the boats putting out to sea, with deck gun installed. Rumor had it that they went to sea, fired a few rounds, and then claimed the "E" for gunnery in Subpac.

I saw them again in the late '60s, in Rio de Janeiro. They did not look as sharp as they did in '63.
