Without reference to politics, just want to drop a note to help the community out.  The Pigpen BBS is no more.  I started the Pigpen about 10-15 years ago when Ron closed down the pigpen here.  It's been an interesting experience.

Some years ago I made the decision that when the computer it was running on died, I would not replace it.  That day came this week.  The server was off in the morning and non responsive, so it's over.  The hard drive still has everything on it, but I think I'm unlikely to replace the hardware.

It was always a hobby for me, to see what it was like to admin a board.  Some years ago, spammers forced me to just close off registrations except via direct requests.  I must have pruned 90+% of the logins just based on geographic location being China or USSR.

Thanks to everyone who participated.  Let's get some activity here.

Thanks, Brian.  I enjoyed it while it lasted.  And I want to express my appreciation for creating a forum in which we were able to express our opinions, political and otherwise, freely and without censure.  I know it took forbearance and that your patience was tested at times.  I, of  course, bear no responsibility for that.  Embarrassed

But, you kept it going in spite of the aggravation it must have caused for you.  I have to say, it did occasionally resemble a particularly raucous family therapy session, though. Wink

You did inform us some time ago that when the old computer you were using as your server conked out the PigPen would be kaput, as well.  And so it came to pass.  At first, though, I thought that you were taking quite a long vacation.

At any rate, it was a good run but all things must come to an end.  And it is now time to decathect from the Ol' PigPen.

I hope this site remains a place for Submariners and friends of Submariners to continue to enjoy Submarine related anecdotes, humor, and Sea Stories - without having the politics and psychobabble of others imposed on us.
